For many couples, the Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook feels like a destination all its own. Known for its artistic flair and immersive experiences, the hotel blends luxury with creativity, making every wedding weekend unforgettable. Few understand that magic better than Michale Odom, the property’s catering sales manager for the past eight years.

Odom’s path to the Grand Bohemian began long before the hotel opened. “I worked for Walt Disney World for 15 years, and knew about Kessler because of the Grand Bohemian Orlando,” he said. When he moved back to Birmingham, he was thrilled a Kessler property would open locally. “I knew I wanted to work for them.”

His passion for planning shines through every event. “I love meeting people, and being able to plan their special days,” he said. In addition to weddings, Odom works with corporate groups, and nonprofits on conferences and galas. He attributes much of the hotel’s success to his team. “We have a great team at the Grand Bohemian Mountain Brook who are very knowledgeable, and take pride in what they do. Teamwork is what I take pride in most.”

That teamwork was tested during one memorable wedding. A couple planned a church ceremony, followed by a reception at the hotel, but a storm knocked out power just before the event. “Most of the items had been prepared, but not all,” Odom said. The team quickly set up a large outdoor grill to finish cooking, while Odom and the event manager updated the couple at the church. Guests arrived to find extra tables in the garden, and a fully prepared reception, unaware of the behind-the-scenes chaos. “I was so proud of the teamwork, and dedication of our staff,” he said.

Couples can craft weekends full of unique experiences. “We have many hands-on options, from our cooking school to our wine-blending classes,” Odom said. Bridal luncheons, groomsmen breakfasts, and visits to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens or the Birmingham Zoo add local charm, and fun for everyone.

When it comes to venue advice, Odom recommends  good communication. “Always confirm what  each respective venue provides,” he said. “For instance, we furnish all the tables, chairs, black or ivory linens, and the dance floor. Knowing this can help you save when you are planning your décor. You can add to existing items to make a truly personal day.”

For Odom, the joy comes from helping couples bring their vision to life. At the Grand Bohemian Mountain Brook, art and hospitality combine to create weddings that feel extraordinary from start to finish.
