Whether it’s Savannah or another Southern staple, vibrant Kessler Collection properties are only a drive away.

There is something oh-so romantic about hopping into the car at the end of your wedding and driving directly to your honeymoon destination. How lucky are we to live in the glorious South where there are beautiful and inspiring destinations within half a day’s drive?

Look no further than the playful and luxurious Kessler Collection of hotels sprinkled around the South.  Asheville, Charleston, Charlotte and Savannah are all home to hotels offering the exceptional Kessler experience.

Savannah is the anchor to Kessler Collection properties with three gorgeous gems in the Historic District. The artful and glamorous Mansion on Forsyth Park with a splendid spa, delicious restaurants and a cooking school. Enjoy a more casual, yet gothic, vibe at The Bohemian on the River with a rooftop bar and restaurant. You’ll find the true pinnacle of the Kessler Bohemian lifestyle at Plant Riverside District, Richard Kessler’s latest endeavor. The JW Marriott is the cornerstone to this new complex built on the shores of the Savannah River from a hollowed-out electric plant. The original power plant stacks are central to the design, lighting up the sky at night and providing private dining indoors. You’ll find spacious rooms with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the river, plenty of quiet spaces to connect, dozens of delicious restaurants and a relaxing spa. When you are ready to join the world again, wander along the riverfront,  where you’ll find pop-up shops, outdoor restaurants and bars and art galleries along with live music and events meant to inspire.

The best part is that all three properties are within  walking distance to Savannah’s Historic District. Spend an afternoon or an entire day meandering the lush squares and historic sites. You’ll discover historic sites, museums, culture, art, shopping, food and, of course, libations. Savannah College of Art and Design galleries as well as the Jepson Center for the Arts and the Telfair Academy will make the art-admirer’s heart sing. A history buff will delight in the dozens of sites honoring Savannah’s history, such as the birthplace of the Girl Scouts at the Juliette Gordon Low House, Mercer House,  First African Baptist Church, Beach Institute, Congregation Mickve Israel or Bonaventure Cemetery. Savannah celebrates hundreds of years of Black history and our strong African American community with monuments, museums and historic sites.  Prefer a guided experience?  There are dozens of tours for every interest, including food, movies, history, Black history and the ever-enchanting ghost tours. Don’t forget to enjoy Savannah’s natural beauty. Picnic in Forsyth Park, walk along the river front or park yourself on a bench and people-watch.

You can literally eat your way through Savannah, but don’t miss Leopold’s Ice Cream, Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, Crystal Beer Parlor, Vinnie Van Go-Go’s, The Grey or my personal favorite for a romantic dinner, The Olde Pink House. Shop Broughton Street for unique gems at Gia or custom leather goods at Satche, or head to the more eclectic shops along Whitaker and Jones streets, including Red Clover and One-Fish,Two Fish.

Venture outside the historic district and discover the artsy, vintage Startland District. Hit up Bull Street Taco or Back in the Day Bakery. Shop for vintage finds and original artwork and finish your evening at Starland Yard with live music and food trucks. Need the sun and surf?  Tybee Island, Savannah’s beach community is a 15 minute drive from downtown. Don’t miss the iconic Crab Shack on your way.

Savannah weaves together cultural touch-points and experiences that are a lovely way to celebrate the beginning of your marriage.  Step away from the usual at Kessler Collection properties—which is exactly what honeymoons are meant for.
