“Whitt and I met at Auburn – we studied the same major, attended the same church, and shared many mutual friends. We spent so much time together people would sometimes confuse us as dating, and I would laugh and quickly correct them. Although I thought very highly of Whitt and enjoyed his company, I truly never considered him as more than a dear friend. It was not until we had both moved to Birmingham following graduation that he finally asked me on a date, and I admitted to myself that I did in fact have a crush on him. After 1.5 years of dating, Whitt asked for my father’s permission to marry me, and he proposed at a beloved plant store, Shoppe. It was the best and biggest surprise.
