“I had gone out to dinner with a friend in September 2021, and was complaining about having a hard time meeting people. We graduated college during the lockdown and moved to the Huntsville area right after, so we found it hard to meet people during that time. She told me to download an app and try meeting someone on there. I told her there was no way it would work and downloaded it to prove her wrong. As it turned out, I would meet my future husband on Hinge the very next day. We met for dinner that night and instantly clicked. I guess you could say it was love at first swipe? I joke that the way we met is a modern love story.

Collin proposed July 15, 2023. We were at the beach with our friends. On the way to dinner, he pulled over at a park and proposed! It was the easiest, “Yes!” of my life.” – Lily

Advice From the Bride

“It is so easy to get swept away by the Pinterest boards and Instagram pages when looking for inspiration for your wedding. I had high hopes that my wedding would look like ones I’ve seen on social media and was absolutely heartbroken when I realized my budget was not going to allow for that. But Collin and my maid of honor reminded me the most important part of the wedding is that it’s about celebrating the union, and so we planned to make our wedding reflect us.

We picked a venue that had absolutely breathtaking views. We love nature so we felt it was a good choice for us. My husband is passionate about environmentalism and sustainability so we found a florist who uses local flowers and even some she grows herself. I love to craft so I made or thrifted all the decor and was really proud that I was able to display my work at our wedding – and it saved us a lot of money! I wore my mother’s veil at the ceremony and we cut her dress short for the rehearsal dinner which we held in my parents backyard, and that was very special because it incorporated my parent’s marriage that I grew up learning from. They celebrate 32 years together this October! There were so many small yet personal details that made our wedding so special.

My husband wanted a wedding that created little waste and I wanted a party with all our favorite people. We had a tight budget, but it came out perfect thanks to all the love put into it. Our family and friends all rolled up their sleeves to give us the fairytale we dreamed of and we worked together as a couple to build our dream day to celebrate our marriage. So my advice: Don’t lose sight of what the day is truly about.” – Lily
