“John and I met at a bonfire the summer before my freshman year of high school in August 2010. He was going into his sophomore year and as fate would have it, we shared geometry class together that fall. Months passed and the annual GHS Swirl Dance (our high school’s version of Sadie Hawkins) was fast approaching. After my dance team’s half-time performance at the varsity basketball game, I decided to shoot my shot and asked John to the dance. He said yes and a few months later he asked me to be his girlfriend. On New Year’s Eve of 2021, John popped the question at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in Tampa, Florida. I had joked with him that I did not want to go into 2022 without a ring on my finger and in true ‘John-fashion’ he waited until the last few hours of 2021 to propose.” – Savannah

Advice From the Bride

“Wedding planning is undoubtedly stressful! During the planning process, never lose sight of the big picture: the day is about the love shared between you and your spouse. For us, it was important to make sure our wedding day was a reflection of who we are as a couple and the beautiful life we share together. We made sure to include many small details throughout the day that were personal to us, such as having our dogs, Teddi and Slate, present for photos at our venue and incorporating them as our signature cocktails at the bar.

Other touches that made our day unique included custom, glass-blown champagne flutes made at our venue by our pastor, Dan Rush, and a live painting by the ever-so-talented Jordan Marx-Sprague – both nods to the artistry and beauty that can be found when visiting the Coastal Arts Center. We ended our night by sharing a private last dance under the stars as they played, “Wondering Why,” by the Red Clay Strays, our favorite local Alabama band.” – Savannah
