August 27, 2022   –   Columbiana

Darius and Carami met during undergrad at the University of Alabama at Birmingham when she was a freshman and he was a sophomore. Carami attended a charity date auction that Darius was participating in the Fall of 2013. Following the event, Darius and Carami were introduced by a mutual friend and immediately became good friends. They talked about the most random things and learned that they had a lot of the same interests. After seven months, Darius finally asked Carami to be his girlfriend with two of her favorite things – a copy of “Love & Basketball” and a pack of Reese’s Cups.Darius proposed six years later on September 26, 2020. Unbeknownst to Carami while she was studying for the bar exam. Darius was secretly planning a surprise proposal. On September 25, Carami received the good news that she passed the bar. Carami’s friends reached out to her to arrange a congratulatory brunch for the next day. On Saturday, Carami’s cousin, Cayla, picked her up for brunch; however, when they arrived it was not the restaurant that Carami was expecting. Instead, they pulled up to a venue. When Carami entered the room, all of their friends and family were waiting. As Carami made her way around the room greeting and collecting roses from her family, she turned to see a walkway lined with candles. Waiting at the end of the walkway was Darius standing in front of a beautiful backdrop that displayed the question,”Will you marry me?”

Of course, she said, “Yes!”
