Claudia and Robert in November of 1996 while they were each out with their friends at the mall. While at the food court, Robert’s friend invited Claudia over to their table. He wanted to play “match-maker” for them, but they were both uninterested in other. However they eventually exchanged numbers.
Claudia and Robert’s entire courting relationship of 3-4 years was long distance, with the exception of occasional weekends they would see each other. Robert proposed to Claudia during her senior year of high school, as he was now a senior in college, and we were both about to graduate. They got married on January 6, 2001, during Christmas break of Claudia’s freshman year of college. Three years into their marriage, they purchased a home and had their first child. They now have seven children, and serve as pastors together at a local church.
Claudia and Robert celebrated 20 years of marriage with a gorgeous vow renewal surrounded by their children at Birmingham’s beautiful little greenhouse in Forest Park, Shoppe Birmingham. We adore the fashion, accessories, and beautiful moments captured with their family by Shelby Willoughby. Here’s to 20 more years to Claudia and Robert!
Her Advice
Marriage is as beautiful as you make it. Approach disagreements objectively. Step outside of the conflict as a team and tackle the problem together. Try to leave emotions out of solving the disagreement and find a balanced solution to the disagreement by getting as close to what works best for both of you, not just one of you.
Most importantly, remember that marriage traces back to first being a spiritual institution established by God, so all of the biblical advice, tips, and strategies for a healthy marriage still work, and will work!
His Advice
Marriage may be the most difficult thing that you will ever do, but it is also the most rewarding if it’s done right. You have to be selfless at least 90% of the time. You have to make time for each other.
